Some government officials from the National Planning Commission and sectoral ministries engaged in a fruitful discussion and developed a framework to integrate DRM/CRM into national development process during the two and a half day workshop organised by UNDP, supported by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).

<description><![CDATA[After completing the first round of nationwide voter registration process, the  Election Commission of Nepal (ECN)  is currently displaying the preliminary list of voters in 75  districts, Village Development Committees (VDCs) and ward offices for ‘claims and objections’. This is an opportunity for voters to verify their information, get it corrected and also report any objection to the list.  The displayed preliminary list contains information of all the people who were deemed eligible voters during the earlier registration process.

The mission was led by the key officials of the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC) of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) to acquaint the Afghan government officials  on the history of institutional development, current operating structure and the gradual administrative and civil service reform process in Nepal.

As of mid February 2012, the signatures, fingerprints and photographs of 10.19 million  voters (10,190,689 citizens) have been digitallycaptured.  The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) started the nationwide voter registration of all citizens 16 years and above in September 2010 with the support of UNDP Election Support Project (ESP).

UNDP Micro-enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP)and AusAID have once again ventured on a new partnership (AUD 3.1 million or US$ 3.3 m) to reduce poverty in Nepal. This is expected to directly benefit 5500 entrepreneurs and create 8000 new jobs in 2012. With this, the total funding of AusAID for MEDEP will amount to AUD 9.015m (US$ 9.6 m).

<description><![CDATA[16 leaders from 11 districts, belonging to seven different political parties actively participated in a four day intensive national level workshop to learn the art of ‘dialogue’ as an important part of leadership during a period of democratic transition.
The party leaders expressed lack of intra party dialogue which needs to be promoted which is one of the main reasons they admitted for party division, adversely affecting key peace process decisions. They further expressed, “Often the leaders lose space for dialogue because they are only in the habit of telling people what they want. Also, focus on dialogue gets diluted because the leaders are struggling for power and less attention is paid to the underlining norms and values.”

<description><![CDATA[With the signing of the Agreement on the Monitoring of the Management of Arms and Armies (AMMAA) in November 2006, the Government, the Seven Party Alliance and the Maoist party agreed on the criteria for establishing who should and should not remain in the cantonments. Individuals were deemed ineligible for any future integration or rehabilitation programmes on the basis of either (a) having been under the age of 18 years when the ceasefire agreement was signed in May 2006, and thus having been recruited to the Maoist army contrary to international law, or (b) having joined the Maoist army after the ceasefire was signed. Hence these individuals have been called Verified Minors and Late Recruits or ‘VMLR’ for short. ]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[A new knowledge product; Decentralized Energy Access and the Millennium Development Goals was launched jointly by the Minister of Environment Hem Raj Tated, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission Deependra Kshetri and UNDP Country Director Shoko Noda, during the ‘Knowledge Sharing Event for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Knowledge Products,’ organized by the Government of Nepal and UNDP.
Simultaneously three other important publications; The Future for Climate Finance in Nepal, Climate Public Expenditure and Institutional Review and Economic Analysis of Local Government Investment in Rural Roads in Nepal, were launched on the same occasion attended by  donors, senior government officials and I/NGOs.
