Some Suggestions

We hope that many of the items that you will find on this website will be of interest to groups engaged in carrying out civic education.

We are very pleased for you to make use of these materials - but we should be grateful if you would acknowledge CASU and also any individual author or other organisation involved in the production of material you use from this site.

You might find of some value our simple guide to the Interim Constitution which is available in English and Nepali.

We shall try to expand this section with ideas for civic education as time goes on. Meanwhile you might find useful a document that tries to outline the topics that would be involved in a full coverage of issues on making a new constitution. We would not expect any one group to cover all topics, but we ourselves eventually to have to have some material (or at least links) on all these topics on our site, as well as paper publications on many of them. You might find it helpful as a sort of overview of the entire topics.

You can access this document here.

The Friedrich Ebert Stifftung Nepal Office has some material on civic education in Nepal, with some links to material from other countries. There is a course called : Civics in Nepal - Contemporary Society Course

You will come across documents prepared for civic education by organizations in other countries. Here are some examples:

Your Constitution Your Rights - prepared by the Citizens Constitutional Forum in the Fiji Islands

Another example of simple explanations for citizens is on the website of the Canadian Department of Justice - Canada's System of Justice..

A cartoon version of the 1987 Constitution of Haiti prepared by National Democratic Institute (this is in Creole - the local language - but you might be interested to see the approach even if you can't read the words!)

The Intute website in the UK has links to quite a number of sites on civic education: search for "civic education" in the social sciences.
