Introductory Workshops/Interaction Programmes

    Constitution Making Process and the Roles of Constituent Assembly Members


    Five, introductory workshops on "Constitution Making Process and the Roles of Constituent Assembly Members" were organized in collaboration with several Civil Society Organizations. The target audience was the Constituent Assembly Members representing Madhesi Dalits, Muslims, Tharu, Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Sherpa, Rai, Limbu and Sunuwar communities and Civil Society Organizations working on these issues.

    The programme was organized on:

    • 26 July 2008, for Madhesi Dalit CA members and civil society representatives.
    • 1 August 2008, for Muslim CA members and civil society representatives.
    • 8 August 2008, for Tharu CA members and civil society members.
    • 22 August 2008, for Magar CA members.
    • 19 September 2008, for CA members representing different indigenous communities such as Gurung, Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, Tamang, Sunuwar etc.

    The programme informed the CA members as well as civil society representatives to the constitution making process. Introduce CA members to the functioning and processes of a CA as well as on key issues related to constitution making. And identified the main areas for capacity development and strengthening of the CA members to enable them to fulfil their roles effectively in the constitution making process.

    Interaction programme with CA members


    From October 2008, "Support to Participatory Constitution Building Programme in Nepal" (SPCBN) started a series of interaction programmes with the CA members. First interaction programme was attended by five CA members. The programme identified the needs and expectations of CA members from the constitution building resource centre.

    Interaction programme on "Effective Representation"


    The interaction programme provides an extensive opportunity to the Constituent Assembly members to learn on different advocacy skills from Mr. Tony Baldry, a British Member of Parliament who has extensive experience in representing his constituency for the last 25 years.
